Rocky's Last Journey

Our dear friend Rocky's life ended on January 20th, 2017. It was just a few months shy of 12 years from the day we adopted him from the Humane Society at 9 months of age. Kidney and liver failure had made life tough and he let us know it was time. He's gone to the great camper in the sky.

Rocky was a friend to all, whether two-legged or four. We will fondly remember his early morning greetings, his happy walks and his love of all things edible. He was our faithful companion on many trips with our camper and canoe. It was rare I could open the door of the truck without him jumping in. He was always up for a new exploration.

We have had three dogs, all golden retrievers. It is always a shock to feel the pain and sadness when they pass from our lives. But they are always with us in the memories of good times and the unconditional love they gave to us. We're not sure if we will get another dog. We may become part-time dog-sitters instead. But we will always remember Rocky.

Here's a few photos to remember the good times:

Postscript: I'm not sure what Rocky's passing means for the future of this blog. I know we will continue camping and I will probably keep writing about our trips. But I may leave this blog as it stands in remembrance of Rocky.

  3. Dog lives are too short. Our treasured doggie friends bless our lives and give us more love than we ever knew possible. May fond memories of sweet Rocky bring peace and comfort to you. Hugs to you both. Steph

  4. Hi Al and Kathy,

I'm sad to hear about Rocky. Anyone who has looked at this blog knows that his life was pretty incredible. I think that he has seen more of the U.S. than me. But, he (and you guys) have inspired me to get out there and explore.
